How can I tell if my tree is dangerous?2025-08-20T09:45:46+01:00

A tree is usually classed as dangerous if it features dead or hanging branches, visible signs of decay, cracking, leaning, or a sudden loss of leaves. A professional tree survey is the best way to assess the risk of a tree.

Can I remove a tree myself?2025-08-20T09:45:25+01:00

We don’t recommend removing a tree yourself. Without the right training and equipment, you’re more likely to injure or harm yourself. Our teams are specifically trained in all operations of tree work, and have all the correct protective equipment to carry out the job safely and effectively.

What time of year is best for a tree surgeon?2025-08-20T09:45:06+01:00

Tree surgeons do work all year round, but the ‘best time’ depends on the type of service needed. For instance, pruning is best done in late autumn to early spring (also known as the dormant season). However, different species of trees are best to work on at different times of year, dependent on pests and diseases that they may be subject to.  Our team will be able to advise you.

Can you remove trees next to power lines?2025-08-20T09:44:43+01:00

Only trained professionals should remove trees next to power lines. Tree surgeons are fully qualified and trained to work safely and confidently around electricals, and also have experience in coordinating with utility providers for the best project management.

Do you need permission for tree work in the UK?2025-08-20T09:43:30+01:00

You will need permission from your local council to conduct work on trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). This also includes trees within conservation areas, and our team can help you navigate this process.

Do I need a tree surgeon?2025-08-20T09:43:09+01:00

It’s probably time to get in touch with a local tree surgeon if your trees are overgrown, diseased, blocking light, or posing a safety risk to occupants or building structure. You may also benefit from the expertise of a tree surgeon for tree surveys and risk assessments during renovations, construction, and extensions.

Are tree surgeons and arborists the same?2025-08-20T09:42:47+01:00

They are very similar, but not exactly the same. Tree surgeons specialise in the practical side of tree care via hands-on tree services, whereas arborists focus on the overall health and safety of trees from a management perspective via assessments, advice, and treatments.

At Crown Tree Services, our team includes both arborists and tree surgeons for a fully comprehensive service.

What does a tree surgeon do?2025-08-20T09:42:28+01:00

A tree surgeon is a qualified professional who manages the practical health, safety, and appearance of trees and shrubs. Tree surgeons do this through hands-on services like tree felling, tree crown reduction, stump removal, shrub pruning, hedge trimming, and more.

Crown services cut a large fir tree down in our garden as it was very overgrown. The service was seamless from start to finish, with the start of the estimate down to the clearance of the debris. The lads worked hard and were very polite and respectful. Very clean and tidy service and completed the job in time estimated. Would thoroughly recommended this service to others.

I have been using Steve and his team for a number of years now and have always been truly satisfied with the standard of work they produce, whether it be from a simple trimming of conifers or large scale removal of established trees, their service is fantastic. Steve’s knowledge and experience is extremely broad and the advice he has given myself has always been of great benefit. His entire team are always polite, courteous and prompt. Steve and his team are highly recommended for a friendly, fast, efficient and tidy service. Had a 100ft overgrown garden totally cleared and now maintained to a high standard for my elderly bed-bound mum, who feels confident to leave her treasured garden in their hands. I also have had my garden cleared of bushes and trees and redesigned exactly to the way I wanted so that I can manage it on my own. Nothing is a problem for these guys, highly recommended. You get what you pay for!
