What do shrub pruning and removal services cover?

Shrubs can be a great addition to any outdoor space, whether it’s a garden, park, or driveway. As with any foliage, however, shrubs can benefit from a little TLC to keep them in shape and ensure they thrive.

There may also be times when a shrub needs removing — whether that’s to transplant it to another location or because it’s reached the end of its natural lifecycle.

Here’s how we can help…

Two large, round, leafy trees stand in a grassy back garden with scattered logs at their base. A wooden fence and garden items are visible, and the sky above is partly cloudy with sun rays peeking through.

Shrub pruning

Pruning is incredibly beneficial for shrubs. Not only does it help maintain their size and shape to get the aesthetic you’re after, but it also promotes healthy growth.

We can carry out regular shrub pruning to:

  • Remove dead or damaged branches.
  • Encourage fresh new growth..
  • Help flowering or fruiting shrubs flourish.
  • Shape the foliage to your desired form and size.
  • Retain a specific shrub size.

Shrub removal

You might need to remove a shrub for a number of reasons. Perhaps it’s blocking too much light, shading other plants or your property. Or maybe you’re worried about a broken or unstable shrub leading to safety hazards. Other situations that could benefit from our shrub removal services include:

  • Creating space: If trimming a shrub back doesn’t do the trick, you might consider removal to create usable space in a small garden.
  • Clearing for construction: Similarly, you might need professional shrub removal if you’re planning to build a new structure or need to access underground utilities.
  • Pest infestations: Shrubs make great homes for a range of critters, but if you’re facing an infestation, sometimes removing the plant can be the best course of action.
  • End of life: Just like any form of plant, shrubs have a natural lifecycle. You might want to remove or replace a shrub if it’s dead or dying.

No matter the circumstances, we can safely and efficiently remove affected shrubs to maximise the potential of your outdoor space.

FAQs

How quickly do shrubs grow?2025-08-12T15:24:02+01:00

How quickly a shrub grows depends on its species and the conditions it’s living in. Most shrubs take about 3-5 years to mature and can grow around 15-30cm a year after that. Although pruning a shrub doesn’t make it grow taller faster, it can encourage new and healthy growth.

What is the lifespan of a shrub?2025-08-12T15:23:38+01:00

Most shrubs live to around 10-15 years, although it depends on the species and growing conditions. Some rhododendron shrubs tend to have a longer lifespan of 20 years or more.

Are shrubs the same as hedges?2025-08-12T15:23:18+01:00

Distinguishing between shrubs and hedges can be a bit confusing at first. A shrub usually refers to a woody plant that has many stems (as opposed to a tree with a main trunk). They also tend to be shorter than 15 feet (4.5 metres).

A hedge is a row of shrubs that have been closely planted to create a form of barrier or border.
