Services Provided: Pollarding, Site Clearance, Commercial Tree Surgery

Location: Romford, Essex

We were recently contacted by the London Borough of Havering, as trusted tree surgeons in Romford, to carry out pollarding works on a number of willow and ash trees within Dagnam Park, a 345-acre public park and designated Local Nature Reserve, as part of our commercial tree services in Essex.

Due to the ecological importance of the site – home to ancient woodlands, grasslands, and a herd of fallow deer – careful planning and the use of appropriate equipment were essential to ensure the work was carried out efficiently while protecting the surrounding environment.

Our Approach

To carry out the works effectively, our team undertook pollarding of the selected trees to support the regeneration of the nearby pond area. This method helps encourage healthy regrowth while allowing more natural light to reach the water.

We utilised our Arb Digger fitted with a specialist rotating grab to safely and efficiently move timber and debris. A tracked chipper was also used on-site, helping to keep the work area clear and organised throughout the project.

Track mats were installed across the working area to minimise ground disturbance and protect the grassed surfaces within the park.

A worker in safety gear climbs a tall tree while another stands below; a yellow digger with a claw attachment is nearby on grassy ground, surrounded by cut branches and trees.

Safety First

As with all of Crown Tree Services projects, safety remained a top priority. Daily team briefings were carried out to ensure all operatives were clear on the plan of work and aware of any site-specific risks.

A full site-specific risk assessment (SSRA), along with our method statement and insurance documentation, was provided to the client prior to the commencement of works.

The Result

The pollarding works were successfully completed over the course of four days, with all debris carefully managed and removed from the site. We completed the work efficiently while taking care to protect the surrounding landscape.

A tranquil riverside scene with green grass, tree stumps, and tall leafy trees under a partly cloudy sky. The river flows gently in the background, surrounded by lush greenery.

The Outcome for our Client

By increasing valuable light penetration to the pond, the works will support pond regeneration and enhance the ecological value of the area, benefiting local wildlife and plant species.

What the Client Said

“Another superb job carried out by our trusted contractor.”
